Does anyone know what this small caterpillar/larvae is. Small at only 5 mm but covered in a uniform group of "balls on stalks".
Any thoughts would be welcome.

I would think this is most likely epiphytic or parasitic on the larva. Almost invariably, spots and marking on lepidopteran larvae have a uniformity, not obvious in your images.

Hi Mal
I come across these little fellows regularly on wet rotten wood; and they always have those white knobbly bits so I am sure they are part of the creature and not any sort of parasite. Quite what they are I don't know - in the old WAB days I'd have said stick the question on one of the entomological threads, but . . . .

Thanks Chris
I did try it on the OU site but no luck there either.
