Is this a crust or bracket type fungi

I presumed that these are on an old fallen tree and possibly where branches once were. I am trying to work out what has caused this formation of patterned circles round a raised middle. There were a number of patches like this in Sutherland's Grove, Barcaldine. Any ideas?

I think you're correct; these are just branch scars like http://thehappyscientist.com/files/Dail ... to-712.jpg - though it's unusual to see so may concentrated over a small area.

Thanks Chris. They do look a bit like the photo. There were lots of patches of these around the forest floor but I could see no sign of the original tree trunk - no raised ground or even dips where the original tree would have fallen. The domed raised centres within the circles also puzzled me as I would have expected it to be flat and sunken.
As I bye the bye the only fungi I found was Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca of which there were lots.
Cheers
