Hello Andreas, I missed the intended humour. I was not suggesting infallibility, simply that your views should be considered, I have no knowledge of any previous such disagreement with you.

Re: Resupinate fungus for ID please
and don't take Leif too seriouse, he always thinks he must avoid any critics or doubts in my "determinations" - That is an absolutely stupid remark. You must live on another planet. Most IDs from an online photo are to be taken with a pinch of salt. As to microscopes, an old monocular can be bought...

Alison: Just a note that Andreas is far more knowledgeable than most if not all of the people who post here. Regarding internet research, do be careful, an awful lot of online photos are wrong.

No, not Psilocybe semilanceata, it lacks the little nipple at the centre of the cap. I would look at Psathyrella or even Conocybe.

I agree that it is a Mycena. Not very helpful, I know. Microscopes are inexpensive and quite fun to use.

This is a splat called Gloeocystidiellum porosum, which was found in Crab Wood near Winchester by one of the HFRG members. It has warty amyloid spores, which measured (5-7)*(3-4)um2, and with distinctive gloeocystidia.

Re: Buying a microscope - questions
Chris: I assure you that you do not have a monopoly on making glaring errors. To be honest this whole area is a minefield, as there are few bricks and mortar shops that both sell 'proper' microscopes, and allow you to try before you buy, and there are few if any trustworthy comparative online review...

Re: Buying a microscope - questions
One disadvantage of old research microscopes is the weight. Collecting one once with your car is fine but you would not want to move one on a regular basis. Not just old ones. My recent Meiji trinocular compound microscope is a bit of a beast, not easy to take to a microscopy workshop! You make a g...

Re: Buying a microscope - questions
This chap sells some stuff including cameras. He might be able to provide example images from cameras he sells. http://www.fungi.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=773 Once Poroid Fungi of Europe is repressed in winter/spring I'll also grab that. I think you mean 'reprinted', but I like your expression. :lo...
