White bracket on birch

This was on a fallen birch branch and barely above water level in the mire below. Found in Bedfordshire last week. Thanks for any thoughts.

Re: Fungus on calcareous soil, W Crete

Thank you very much Flaxton and Andreas. I was attracted to R. maculata as it was the closest that I could get on the check list of Greek macrofungi (29 spp) that I found. Dangerous, I know, and I fully agree with Andreas's plea for caution.

Thanks again.

Fungus on calcareous soil, W Crete

Found on the edge of deciduous woodland at the head of a limestone gorge in western Crete. The photos were taken on-the run, trying not to lose sight of a walking group, so not as much detail as I would like. Any guidance would be very welcome!

Re: Growing on wood chippings

Very many thanks Andreas! It was one of my suspicions, but the brown (rather than orange) colouring of the cap kept me in doubt. It's good to have an expert confirm.

Best wishes to you

Growing on wood chippings

I found this yesterday growing on a path covered with wood chippings of unknown origin. I would greatly appreciate any help in identification.

Many thanks.

Fungus by an Italian lake 2

This is the second fungus. It is growing on the recently inundated roots of Phragmites reed. The water line has receded many metres leaving the root mounds exposed. Thanks for any comments on its possible id.

Fungus by an Italian lake 1

We came across two fungi on an excursion to Lake Vico in Central Italy (510 masl) in November. I would appreciate any comments on their id and will post one here and the other in a separate message. (I did not take the pictures.) This one was found in grazed grassland remote from the water's edge. M...

Bracket on dead wood

I'd be grateful if someone could confirm the id of this bracket. Found on dead wood (hazel I think) in deciduous woodland last October. Many thanks.

Re: Fungus seen in central Italy1

Thank you very much Andreas. Now that you point it out I can recall seeing it in the UK growing on buried poplar roots. Great work!

Italian fungus 2

This is the second one. Still on dead elm. Thanks for any suggestions, as before.
