I went off across the fields and then failed to find the same fence stave for some reason. I did photograph this on another fence stave that must be nearby, and testing it it came out like this.... that's using NaOH. I guess it looks more like polydactyla?

Thanks Neil. Sounds like I need to dust off those chemicals and head off back across the fields. This was actually the best specimen I could find! I'll post the chemical result when I've given that a go if I can make it work.
This Cladonia was photographed on West Mainland, Orkney 30/01/2021. It was on an old wooden fence stave. These are wet grazing meadows, at sea level.
