Unidentified brown fungus found on grass path near alder

Hello, I found this fungus on a grassy path that is kept mown on a regular basis and wondered if I am close with thinking it could be Panaeolus foenisecii. The spores were rather odd i.e. pac man shaped and there were unusual gills, maybe deformed or underdeveloped. Any help would be much appreciate...

Re: What is this tree?

Just got a leaf sample today and the sharp rather than finely pointed teeth on the leaf margin point me in the direction of the Japanese crab apple Malus x floribunda. To be sure I need to see the small rounded fruit that should measure about 8mm across.

Re: What is this tree?

HI Adam, Where exactly are the trees? If I am passing I'll get a sample to identify.

Re: What is this tree?

Difficult to say from the picture. I need to see the leaf details but a guess would silvestris the crab apple. Try taking a Leaf / twig sample and try out the website link. Let me know how you get on.

Sounds like a good idea. Trees are one of my areas and I would be more than willing to identify anything tree related if it can help.
