Slime mould on woodchip ID please

Hello everyone

This morning I found this slime mould on a rotting woodchip on the Sussex/Surrey border. Each fruiting body measures about 3mm high. Any IDs much appreciated!

Kuehneola uredinis?

Rust on the flower buds of a Bramble (Rubus) sp.
Sorry for the over-exposed image. I think this species is usually evident on the stems at this time of year but I'm not sure about on the buds, which is why I'd like to confirm it.

Thanks, James

Re: Fungus in garden

Lyophyllum decastes does look like a good match, thank you. I have attached a couple of photos of the spores, I think they are a little too big and the wrong shape for this species though? They remind me of Russula spores.

Re: Fungus in garden

Thanks both, yes the spore print is white. I think that would rule out R. gemina unfortunately as it says in Phillips that the spore print is pinkish. I hope to look at the spores over the weekend when I have time.

Fungus in garden

Hello everyone, sorry for the lack of posts recently, I have been very busy with schoolwork but I certainly hope to post more regularly this autumn. Recently I attended a field meeting with the West Weald Fungus Recording Group at Leith Hill - it was excellent with 23 species I have never seen befor...

Re: Mildew on Stinging Nettle

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the advice. I have used that tape technique before when collecting pollen from flowers, but had never thought of using it for mycology. Much appreciated.

James

Re: Mildew on Stinging Nettle

Hi Steve,
Thank you very much for your reply and help :D .
Could you recommend the best way of getting the fruiting bodies or spores of rusts and mildews onto a microscope slide?
Regards,
James

Mildew on Stinging Nettle

The other day I was walking through a nearby farm when I spotted a mildew infecting a patch of nettles. I have never seen this mildew before however I have walked past the nettles hundreds of times. I was wondering if identification was possible with photos like mine, or whether I would have to put ...

Re: Small fungus on Ivy leaf

Thanks Chris - definitely doesn't seem too unusual: 686 records on the FRDBI, many of which have 'Origin of Record: Chris Yeates'!

Small fungus on Ivy leaf

Hello everyone Sorry I've been a bit quiet recently - I've had exams and there haven't been many fungi about! This fungus, which I found on an Ivy leaf today while checking a Blackbird nest in a nearby Privet, has fruiting bodies that look like wine glasses. I still have the leaf if anymore informat...

Common Mazegill

Found on the underside of an unknown log (as in I'm not sure what species it comes from) near the shore of a lake. It has been suggested elsewhere as being Common Mazegill (Datronia mollis). I would appreciate if anyone could confirm this or identify it as something different.

Re: Snowy Disco (Lachnum virgineum)?

That's odd! The NBN has a long list of Lachnum species, but Lachnum impudicum isn't one of them. So it seems quite uncommon?
