Possibly Irpex?

Please try to include photos to show all parts of the fungus, eg top, stem, and gills.
Note any smells, and associated trees or plants (eg oak, birch). A spore print can be very useful.

Possibly Irpex?

Post by jimmymac2 » Sat Jan 05, 2019 6:04 pm

Hello

Today I found this crust fungus with clear 'teeth' growing on the trunk of a young Hazel tree. It's not included in Phillips so I did a quick online search where it appears to match Irpex lacteus, however this does not appear to be common in the UK judging by the number of records on the NBN Gateway. Can anyone suggest a more likely alternative or perhaps even confirm this to be I. lacteus?

Thanks
James

Hello James
my money would be on Schizopora paradoxa which can look exactly like this. Compare with some online images, e.g. https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drewniczk ... a1_(6).JPG.

best wishes
Chris
