Can anyone tell me why some microscope slides have a frosted end?

There are numerous different types of slides: frosted slides are used for writing on. Perhaps you ordered them by accident, or were sent my mistake.

They can actually be very useful, they're the ones I usually use. Best used with a relatively hard-leaded pencil, helps one keep track of what's what especially with semi-permanent lactophenol-based mounts.
