Orchids at Ynyslas
Orchids at Ynyslas
Had a 4 day break at Borth last week. The orchids on the dunes at Ynyslas were looking great. Pictured here Early Marsh Orchid, Pyramidal Orchid and Bee Orchid – but here were others and lots more flower species as well.

You are lucky to have dunes near you! Down here in Sussex all we get are Common Spotted Orchids, nothing else (in fact I know of only one Bee Orchid in the whole county)!
Always keep your eyes open...

Re: Orchids at Ynyslas
You just never know! Look out for limestone chippings, cement/concrete and you may get lucky - you don't get more peaty and acidic than Saddleworth, but amongst the Southerm Marsh and Common spotted hybrids, these appeared and took me by surprise..........

Hi Ken
That was my reaction at Ynyslas, Bee orchids? Sand dunes? However then put it down to the ignorance of a learner. Obviously they are happy on other than limestone.

Don't forget sand dunes are very likely to be calcium rich , like limestone, from shells.............

Please can I alert you all to the Orchid Observers project, which is looking at the effect of climate change on orchids and mapping the current distribution of UK orchids. It includes a very useful identification guide.

You may be confusing me with my wife Christine. We have similar names which we both abbreviate to Chris.

We have both registered separately.

Chris, i.e username "Chris Johnson", doesn't currently have his name (or anything else) as a signature.
Christine Johnson, i.e. username "CJohnsonOHBR" does.

Regards,
Mike.
Common sense is not so common.
Re: Orchids at Ynyslas
Hi Mike - I was right - The post I replied to was by Christine - and it was her I was meaning - confusion reigned then from a reply from Chris, not Christine - Chris must have thought I was posting to him, which I wasn't.
