Cliostomum, sac fungi or other

Post by PaulBowyer » Fri May 10, 2019 3:02 pm

Found this on a gate in Yorkshire but struggling to get a firm ID. I initially thought it might be Cliostomum griffithii but someone else says it Sac Fungi. The apothecia measure 400µm. Wondered if anyone might be able to help decide one way or the other or suggest something completely different? The spores appear to be 1-septate about 10µm long. UV, K and C all seem to be negative. Thanks, Paul

Paul

Does not look much like Cliostomum griffithii, and does not ring any bells, I suspect it is not a lichenised fungus

Thank you Neil, that would explain why I was having trouble. I guess it can be tricky at times to determine whether a disk growing on a lichen thallus is a parasite or the actual apothecia. I think it was the only patch on the gate so nothing to compare with. Paul
