Found on Hedge Garlic (Alliaria petiolata) I have come up with Peronospora/Hyaloperonospora niessliana. any ideas?

Yep - Hyaloperonospora niessliana - quite common on Alliaria if one checks the undersides of leaves showing paler patches on their upper surface, as you have done, Mark.

There was a time when UK records on Brassicaceae (Cruciferae) were limited to this species on Alliaria, with Hyaloperonospora (Peronospora) parasitica on everything else - Ellis and Ellis takes this approach. However recent molecular work by Herman Voglmayr and others has shown that many of the "splits" made by Gäumann were justified - just type "Hyaloperonospora" into http://www.indexfungorum.org/names/names.asp and you'll see what I mean.
The rather narrow conidia of H. niessliana are characteristic of this species.
cheers
Chris
