Fertile Usnea subfloridana

Post by CJohnsonOHBR » Sun Mar 22, 2020 11:23 am

This specimen was collected from the same conifer plantation on North Uist at the same time as the fertile Parmotrema crinitum.
Usnea subfloridana is widely distributed throughout the islands on both trees and fence posts, and when present is usually abundant. The presence of apothecia seems to be unusual rather than rare, and as this is the first time I have found a fertile thallus I was quite excited. We also manged to get some spores in a spore drop.
